Meet the Sexual Violence Response Team:
Hema Krueger Vyas
Sexual Violence & Human Rights Advisor
Hello, my name is Hema and I work as the Sexual Violence and Human Rights Advisor at the University of Winnipeg. I am a queer, Gujarati educator who is passionate about health education and creating safer spaces for healthier communities.
In my role with the Sexual Violence Response Team I can help to support anyone who has experienced sexual violence, whether recently or historically. I can assist with on and off campus supports and accommodations, as well as support around reporting or navigating the legal system. Additionally, I provide education and training around sexual health, consent, sexual violence, and gender identity. I aim to use trauma-informed and anti-oppression based approaches in my work.
Prior to joining the University of Winnipeg in 2020, I worked as a health educator with the Teen Talk program for a decade. In my previous role, I worked across Manitoba to provide accurate, non-judgemental education around sexual health, healthy relationships, body image and substance use based harm reduction for youth and service providers. Additionally, I worked at Klinic Community Health as a sexual assault crisis counselor.
Outside of my role at the University of Winnipeg, I am a co-director of Red Tent. Red Tent is an organization that provides trauma-informed anti-oppression edcuation, crisis response and policy work for several organizations in Manitoba, including many Manitoba based festivals (so, come say hi if you see me in this setting!) Additionally, I support the BIPOC space at Camp Aurora and Chair the Board of Women's Health Clinic.
I love to laugh with my family and friends, go to shows, spend time by the water, and to eat delicious food!
I love working in my role and am here to help support you or to answer any questions you may have. Please don't hesitate to connect with me, if you think I may be able to be helpful to you.

Stacey Belding
Human Rights and Diversity Officer
Hello, my name is Stacey and I oversee the UW Human Rights and Diversity Office’s activities regarding human rights, employment equity, accessibility, respectful workplace, and sexual violence prevention. Along with taking reports under the UW Sexual Violence Prevention Policy, I provide advice to members of the University community about options for addressing sexualized violence. I also help facilitate accommodations for affected faculty/staff and provide education and training around sexual violence.
Prior to completing a law degree, I pursued an Honours in Sociology that included research into the legal treatment of sexual violence. I practiced law for over a decade and worked as the Manager of Investigation and Policy Development at the Manitoba Human Rights Commission before joining the University. My volunteer experience includes providing pro bono legal advice as a member of the Philippine Consular Services team and serving as a board member of an international development non-profit organization.
Outside of work I love to spend time with my family and can be found doing yoga, traveling, camping, hiking, or cooking (and eating!) delicious vegan food. I can be reached at s.belding@uwinnipeg.ca or (204) 988-7508 (confidential line).
